Yep it certainly can be… I finished my witch last night, but it would have been done the night before that, but I was getting a serious crash in game… I was so disheartened when everything I tried failed. So as I was going through the code for a third time… I found 2 places where I was missing an underscore… fixed that and it was all good. Such tiny mistakes can be very frustrating.

I’m also working on making my own character class mod and experiencing this. The funny thing is after I finished the artwork and tried it out for the first time it worked without crashes – just no combat animations and the class camp skills didn’t appear. When I went back and edited the ATLAS files to have the same name in them as their matching file names, skill names, etc. (First I did this with regular notepad, btw.) Basically, I went back in and started tweaking things to match up in the anim and fx files, and then after that…crashy whenever taking the class into the dungeon. I’ve since gotten notepad++ and gone over EVERYTHING with a fine-toothed comb (more than once) and tweaked things…even reinstalled the game. Now the class doesn’t show up at all. @_@ Feels like everything I do that should make it work better ends up making it work less. D:

Anyway, the thing I wanted to mention that might be a useful tidbit is, while I was porting leper SKEL files over (my class uses leper as a base), I had a weird problem where it thought I had a file in there with the same name already. I looked repeatedly, refreshing, etc, and I couldn’t see it. o___o; The only files I have that hide are Windows system files.

So I pulled the files I was working with and could see into a new folder, selecting them one by one, and deleted the old folder. Then when I tried to pull the same file that had a phantom duplicate, it worked fine – phantom duplicate denied!

It’s late and I’m gonna head to bed, but I think the next thing I’ll try is checking my class.info file and the effects file for inconsistencies. I had a riposte effect on one thing and deleted it just to simplify, but with the class not showing up in the stagecoach at all, it makes it hard to test. XD Starting to think I should have kept a zip of the original setup that worked but had no fighting animations (just walk, idle, combat, investigate, etc.) or signature camp skills.
