Well the Norse Dark Elves fall into two categories (three really).
First you have the Liosalfar (the light elves, who aren’t really dark elves at all). They are beings of elemntal light that dwell in their own realm and never seem to do very much really apart from prance around feeling pretty.
Then you have the svartalfar (the dark elves) who are dark elementals. However the dark elves are also known as the dokkalfar or dokk which is, in turn, another name for the dwarfs. This is because alf (elf) is a catch all term for “not human” and thus the dwarfs get lumped in with the elves despite also being treated as a distinct category of their own.
The dvergr, dokk, dokkalfar are the dwarven folk, miners, artisans and craftsmen who dwell beneath the earth. They have evolved from the maggots and lice that crawled upon the body of Ymir, the first giant, as he lay dead. It might be worth incorporating some kind of insect motiffs into the armour and clothing (or possibly even into her features). This would also tie in with the mosquito from the new upcoming dlc teaser art.
By insect I don’t mean spider. I mean more like ants, beetles etc.
I’ve no idea if the word drow has a root prior to Gygax (I believes there’s Trowe as a kind of Scottish salt water dwelling troll but I’d need to verify that).
