Is the mod really that good if it invalidates almost every class in the game? That strikes me as a serious problem. In the main game most are at least viable.
Oh, don’t take my babbling as the be-all and end-all when it comes to PBD’s class balance. My hero selection was strongly influenced by my preference for safe and grindy line ups and my experiences from the vanilla game (my thoughts on all those squishy damage oriented classes is pretty much the same even in the vanilla game). I’m sure that it’s also possible to run classes like the Arbalest, the Bounty Hunter or the Grave Robber. I just didn’t see an obvious way and wasn’t willing to invest the time to find out how. It might be true that the classes which are already on the weaker side in the vanilla game – i.e. the Jester and the Leper – have it even worse in PBD because the mod demands much more from your heroes, but even those can work. It’s always a question of balance. The setups I run are geared towards safety and consistency and excel in those regards, but lack burst damage or kill speed. Others might be a bit squishier but make up for it in terms of kill speed and damage avoidance (in contrast to my tanking and healing).
Pretty sure that you can take some of the more offensive yet squishier classes, slap one or two defensive trinkets on them and make them work just as well. I just didn’t feel the urge to try because I wasn’t too familiar with them in the first place. So don’t let my harsh criticism of the classes (some of which I’ve never even tried btw.. some of my critique is based purely on theory and as such of rather limited insight) keep you from playing the mod/using them. When I said that a hero isn’t on par with the others, that meant that I personally wouldn’t use him but not that he’s unusable.
So go out there and conquer the world with all those Grave Robbers, Bounty Hunters and Occultists that never got the chance in my Hamlet 😀
